FRANCIS PIERRE One of the outstanding harpists of our generation, Francis Pierre has served as principal harpist in ensembles such as the Orchestre de Paris, the Kranichstein Chamber Ensemble, Ars Nova, the Trio Debussy and Domaine Musical. He has played under conductors including Charles Münch, Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, Daniel Barenboïm, Bruno Maderna, and Marius Constant and has given first performances of a number of works for harp by composers including Berio, Holliger, Amy, Malec, Constant, Pousseur, Louvier, and Thon That Tiêt. From 1958 to 1968 he participated annually in the Darmstadt Festival and has served as a jury member for competitions in Gargilesse, the Isle of Man, Israel and Soka. He was professor of harp at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique from 1986 to 1995 and is now professor at the Paris Ecole Normale de Musique.
