FRANÇOISE RIVALLAND

A student of Gérard Hiéronimus, Françoise Rivalland studied percussion with Francis Branna, Gaston Sylvestre and Jean-Pierre Drouet. She primarily performs contemporary music, sometimes in small orchestral groups but mostly in chamber music ensembles or as a soloist. She has performed works by Carlos Roque Alsina, Georges Aperghis, Luciano Berio, John Cage, Francis Courtot, Aurelio Edler-Copès, Morton Feldman, Brian Ferneyhough, Luc Ferrari, Bruno Giner, Vinko Globokar, Klaus Huber, Maurizio Kagel, György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenman, Giacinto Scelsi, Kurt Schwitters, Yoshihisa Taïra, Iannis Xenakis, Susumu Yoshida, among others. She is a cofounder of S:i.c., Situation: interprètes et compositeurs (www.ensemble-sic.com), which encourages the performance and the creation of chamber music, and was their artistic director from 1986 to 2009. In September 2004 she was named professor at the Haute École des Arts de Bern in Switzerland where she teaches in their musical theatre programme.
