FRIEDEMANN EICHHORN

Friedemann Eichhorn is among the most interesting and versatile artists of his generation. As a soloist he has appeared with famous orchestras under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin, Jac van Steen, and Stefan Sanderling, among others, and as a chamber musician has collaborated with Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer and Boris Pergamenschikov. He did a doctorate in Musicology at the University of Mainz, contributes entries to dictionaries and edits music for Schott-Verlag. He has discovered a number of forgotten works for concert performance and appeared on several occasions as a conductor, particularly of chamber orchestras. Friedemann Eichhorn teaches at the Franz Liszt Musikhochschule in Weimar and at the Summer Academy at the Salzburg Mozarteum. He is director of the Weimar Hochschule Institute for String Instruments and Harp, where he leads the international Louis Spohr Competition. From 2001 to 2007 he was director of the Zwingenberg am Neckar Schloss Festival. Friedemann Eichhorn studied with Valery Gradow in Mannheim, with Alberto Lysy at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland and as a scholarship-holder with Margaret Pardee at The Juilliard School in New York. He was also indebted to Sashko Gavrilov. His acclaimed recordings for Naxos include Pierre Rode: Violin Concertos Nos. 7, 10, 13 (8.570469), Adrien François Servais: Duos for Cello and Violin, with A. Hülshoff, (8.572188) and Friedrich Hermann: 3 Capriccios (8.572066).
