Born in Iceland, Garðar Thór Cortes studied first in Reykjavik and later at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik and at the London Royal Academy of Music. He sang Florville (Il Signor Bruschino) and Fenton (Falstaff), followed by Tony (West Side Story), Tamino, Nemorino, the Italian Tenor (Der Rosenkavalier), and Don Ramiro and Ferrando in Reykjavik. He sang in The Phantom of the Opera in London, and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) for Opera Ireland and English Touring Opera. He made his début at Wildbad in Lʼequivoco stravagante and Lʼoccasione fa il ladro.
