Viennese Pianist Gerda Struhal studied the piano with Alan Weiss at the Utrecht Conservatory, and graduated with honours from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (UMPAV) under the tutorship of Hans Petermandl. She subsequently studied conducting at the Konservatorium Vienna University with Georg Mark and Reinhard Schwarz. She teaches at the UMPAV and has given master-classes. Recipient of numerous prizes and awards, Gerda Struhal regularly appears as a soloist and with orchestras, including the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, China National Symphony, Hong Kong City Chamber, Shanghai Symphony, and Bilkent Symphony, among others. Her repertoire ranges from Bach and his contemporaries to contemporary music. With invitations from Europe, Asia, and the United States, she has appeared at venues including the Wiener Konzerthaus, Beethoven Haus Bonn, Brucknerhaus Linz, Carinthian Summer Music Festival, Carl Philipp E. Bach Hall, Maryland Hall of the Creative Arts, Shanghai Concert Hall, ACFNY, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and elsewhere.
