Giulio Mastrototaro was born in Riva del Garda and made his operatic début in 2000 as Martino in Rossini’s L’occasione fa il ladro. His career has included performances at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro dell’Opera, Rome, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and elsewhere, with international appearances at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels (Figaro in Paisiello’s Barbiere), the Salzburg Festival, the Theater an der Wien, the Bregenz Festival, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Opernhaus in Leipzig, the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon, the Rossini in Wildbad Festival, the Baroque Festival in Potsdam and Bayreuth, and at various French theatres. His principal rôles are in the major operatic works of the eighteenth century. In 2004 he won the Concorso Internazionale As.Li.Co for his interpretation of Belcore in L’elisir d’amore. He has recorded for Naxos, Sony, C Major, Dynamic, Bongiovanni and CPO.
