NORA GUBISCH

Nora Gubisch was born in Paris and received her introduction to classical music at the hands of Radio France, and her piano teacher Catherine Collard. She majored in singing at the Paris Conservatoire with Christiane Eda-Pierre, where she won the top award and later studied with Vera Rozsa. She is now one of the most distinguished mezzo-sopranos of her generation. She has performed Carmen in Berlin, Paris and Zurich and in numerous other productions the world over, and La Belle Hélène at the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence Festivals. She has performed The Rape of Lucretia at Opéra Lyon and the Wagnerian rôles of Magdalene, Waltraute and Brangäne, as well as Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther and Judith in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle at the Wiener Staatsoper. Nora Gubisch has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Georges Prêtre, Lorin Maazel, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, James Conlon, Christoph Eschenbach and Armin Jordan, and has appeared with internationally renowned orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre National de France. She also excels at oratorio and chamber music, and has for several years performed in a duo with Alain Altinoglu, with whom she has recorded two critically acclaimed albums of French song and a third called Folk Songs. Nora Gubisch is a member of the order Chevalier des arts et des lettres.
