Born in Oporto and a prizewinner at the Orfeo and Innsbruck singing competitions, the tenor Fernando Guimarães has worked with leading conductors and his festival appearances have included Aix-en-Provence, Innsbruck, Potsdam, Ambronay, Saintes and Beaune. He has appeared in concert with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Les Arts Florissants, Les Talens Lyriques, the Freiburger Barockconsort, Capriccio Stravagante, Collegium Vocale Gent, Al Ayre Español, L’Arpeggiata, B’Rock and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. 2014 saw his début in the United States in the title rôle of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, for which he obtained a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Opera Recording.
