HANS-UDO KREUELS The pianist, composer and teacher Hans-Udo Kreuels was born at Kevelaer in North Rhine Westphalia and from 1969 studied the piano, composition and singing in Detmold. The years from 1972 to 1975 brought a series of important compositions and performances of new music in Germany and the Benelux countries. In 1974 his first String Quartet, ‘Innen und Aussen’, was performed at Darmstadt, and the following year he continued his studies of the piano in Vienna, completed in 1981 with his diploma, and of musicology at Vienna University. Since 1980 he has been professor of piano and of song accompaniment at the Vorarlberg Conservatory in Feldkirch. His career has brought concert performances both as a soloist and in chamber music throughout Europe, and collaboration with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and with well-known singers, in addition to recordings, broadcasts and television appearances, with publications that include editions of music and contributions to international conferences, and seminars in connection with the Feldkirch Schubertiade. His compositions now include some sixty works, and he is considered today to be one of the most sensitive pianists in Austria.
