INGER DAM-JENSEN

An outstanding performer on the concert platform, the Danish soprano Inger Dam-Jensen has made a number of concert débuts to remarkable critical acclaim. These include Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis; Les Illuminations with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernard Haitink; Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Christoph von Dohnányi; Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Orchestra of the Bastille under James Conlon, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under Edo de Waart and with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Dausgaard; Strauss’s Brentano Lieder with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Jesús López-Cobos; the Final Scene from Strauss’ Daphne and Vier letzte Lieder with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy; and Berio’s Folksongs with the Tonkünstler Orchester under Ernesto Martinez-Isquierdo.

Inger Dam-Jensen’s operatic rôles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, for the Opéra de Paris, Despina in Così fan tutte, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Lisa in La sonnambula, for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and Sifare in Mitridate for Geneva Opera. At home in Denmark with Royal Danish Opera rôles include Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Zdenka in Arabella, Ophelia in Hamlet, Norina in Don Pasquale, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Musetta in La bohème, Gilda in Rigoletto and Violetta in La Traviata. In recital Inger Dam-Jensen has appeared at the Cologne Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall, in the BBC Proms Chamber Series and on Radio France.

Her discography includes Peer Gynt for Teldec, Solomon under Paul McCreesh for Deutsche Grammophon, Ein deutsches Requiem for Chandos, and a selection of Carl Nielsen’s songs for Dacapo. Winner of the coveted Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 1993, Inger Dam-Jensen began her formal music education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music before moving to the Danish Opera School in 1990 to study with Kirsten Buhl Møller.
