JOHANN VALDIMARSSON Jóhann Valdimarsson, tenor
Born in Reykjavik in 1967, Jóhann Valdimarsson studied the trumpet and
piano at the Reykjavík Preparatory Music School and at the Reykjavík
College of Music from a very early age. From 1995 he studied voice at the Reykjavík
College of Singing, graduating in 1998 with distinction, thereafter continuing
his training in Milan under Giovanni Canetti of the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi.
He also studied in with Angelo Bertacchi in Modena and Franco Ghitti in Brescia.
He has performed frequently both in Iceland and in Italy, winning himself an
excellent reputation and outstanding reviews. His operatic rôles have
included those of Alfredo in La traviata, Macduff in Macbeth,
the Duke in Rigoletto, the false Dimitri in Boris Godunov, Don
José in Carmen, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and Cavaradossi
in Tosca. As the leading tenor of Iceland's Three Tenors he enjoys considerable
popularity as a performer, enhanced by his recordings and television appearances.
