KING STEPHEN OPERA CHOIR
The ensemble was founded in December 2009 from nine Budapest choirs, on a voluntary basis, specifically for the performance of Erkel’s opera King Stephen in Komárom on 10 July 2010. The opera forged the choir into a choral community that has participated in other productions, both independently and as a partner of the Budapest Symphony Orchestra MÁV. In 2012 the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) nominated their Erkel Choral Works CD, with Ákos Somogyváry conducting, among the ten best recordings of its category. Most recently it presented Erkel’s almost unknown Magyar Cantate, with the participation of renowned soloists and the orchestra of the opera house at the reopening of the Erkel Theatre in Budapest.
