The tenor Kirlianit Cortes studied singing at the Antioquias University in Columbia, completing his vocal studies at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts. He made his operatic début in 1995 in Bogotá as Borsa (Rigoletto), followed by Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte). Since 2002 he has made regular guest appearances in the main Vienna theatres and concert halls, and has performed with great success in China, Norway, Italy and Japan. In 2009 he was awarded Second Prize in the Jan Kiepura European Tenor Contest in Poland. He is also an acclaimed performer in oratorio and in Lieder recitals.
