LOTTE LENYA

Lotte Lenya was born in 1898 in Vienna. In 1914 she started training as a classical dancer in Zurich, Switzerland, she moved to Berlin in 1921. There she met Kurt Weill in 1924, two years later they married. Her first artistic collaboration with Weill was in his Songspiel Mahagonny of 1927, but she had her first international success in 1928 when she performed Jenny in Die Dreigroschenoper by Weill and Bertold Brecht. Lotte Lenya had an active stage, recording, and film career in America and in Europe, but she will be mostly remembered for her interpretations of the songs of her husband Kurt Weill.
