LILY STRICKLAND (1884 - 1958)
Trained at the Institute of Musical Art in New York, the American composer Lily
Strickland spent the years from 1920 to 1929 in India, where she was able to
study the music of the country. In America she was interested in black and
Amerindian music and this is demonstrated in a number of her compositions, some
influenced by Farwell and Cadman.
