MADELEINE PIERARD New Zealand lyric soprano, Madeleine Pierard is a Jette Parker Young Artist with The Royal Opera, Covent Garden. She studied at Victoria University of Wellington and completed her MMus at the Royal College of Music International Opera School in London, followed by a year at the National Opera Studio, studying under Lillian Watson. She won many awards during her London residency, most notably the Les Azuriales Ozone Opera Competition in Cap-Ferrat, France and the Singer’s Award at the Royal Overseas League Competition. She is also a New Generation Artist with the Arts Foundation of New Zealand and winner of the 2005 Lexus Song Quest. With the Royal Opera, she made her début with Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel), followed by the High Priestess (Aida) and Noémie (Cendrillon). She also understudied Leila (The Pearl Fishers) and Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride). She has performed extensively on the concert platform throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Her earlier Naxos recordings include Beethoven works for soprano and orchestra (8.557264).
