MALMO OPERA ORCHESTRA

Malmö Opera Orchestra was founded in 1991, making it one of the youngest in Sweden. The continuing role of the orchestra is the performance of operas and musicals at Malmö Opera, but over the years concerts, tours and recordings have become an everyday occurrence for the 62 professional musicians from all over the world. Noted recordings are Choruses for Male Voices and Orchestra together with Lunds Studensångare on Naxos and a DVD recording of Leoš Janáček’s Jenůfa on Arthaus, a recording that became Critics’ Choice in the magazine Opera Now. Malmö Opera Orchestra is characterised by its ability to master a wide range of musical styles, creating a unique flexibility and sense of intimacy. It is just as familiar with classic opera repertoire as it is with modern musical and contemporary opera.
