MANEL VALDIVIESO Born in Barcelona, Manel Valdivieso studied at the Escolania de Montserrat and at the Badalona and Barcelona Conservatoires, furthering his education with Benet Casablancas, Josep Soler, and Antoni Ros-Marbà. One of the most versatile conductors of his generation, he performs a wide repertoire, appearing with most of Spain’s leading orchestras.
He is also very much involved in pioneer projects of orchestral education, such as the JONC, Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya, and has held the post of principal conductor for the latter since 2001, when he succeeded Josep Pons. He also appears as a conductor at home and abroad in leading opera houses. He has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Naxos and Columna.
