JONATHAN MANSON

Jonathan Manson enjoys a varied career as a performer on both cello and viola da gamba. He is a founding member of the viol quartet Phantasm, which has toured worldwide and won two Gramophone Awards. For ten years he was the principal cellist of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, with which he performed and recorded more than 150 Bach cantatas and, together with Yo-Yo Ma, Vivaldiʼs Concerto for two cellos. As a concerto soloist, he has recently appeared at the Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and the South Bank Centre. Jonathan Manson is an active chamber musician, performing repertoire from the Renaissance to the Romantic. A long-standing partnership with the harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock has led to numerous recitals and an acclaimed recording of the Bach Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord. Together they have collaborated with the flautist Emmanuel Pahud, leading to successful tours of Europe, the United States and the Far East. He lives in Oxfordshire and is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
