The Italian flautist Mario Ancillotti was trained at the Florence Conservatory, where he worked with Luigi Dallapiccola, Roberto Lupi, the Quartetto Italiano and Piero Bellugi. He served in Rome with Severino Gazzelloni as first flute of the RAI Rome Symphony Orchestra and then of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome. As a soloist he has collaborated with Salvatore Accardo, Riccardo Muti, Luciano Berio, Goffredo Petrassi, Krzysztof Penderecki, Salvatore Sciarrino, Hans Werner Henze, Bruno Canino, Vladimir Spivakov, Bruno Giuranna, Enrico Dindo and David Geringas, playing under Peter Maag, Piero Bellugi, Sylvain Cambreling, Ernest Bour, Hubert Soudant, Carl Melles, Muhai Tang and others. He has taught for twenty years at the Fiesole School of Music and for a longer period at the University School of Music in Lugano. He has also organised courses and seminars in Japan, Austria, Germany, Spain, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, China, the Czech Republic and Italy. He is director of the ensemble Nuovo Contrappunto with which he has made a number of recordings dedicated to the works of Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel e Manuel de Falla as director and soloist. Recent projects have included participation in the Japanese Kusatsu Festival and conducting at the Venice Biennale Musica.
