MARTIJN VAN DEN HOEK

Born in Rotterdam, Martyn van den Hoek also studied in Moscow, Budapest and New York, during these years developing an admiration for the creative genius of Franz Liszt. He won First Prize at the 1986 International Franz Liszt Competition, soon followed by the 1987 Netherlands Music Prize. He has continued to give concerts throughout the world and from 1986 to 1991 was a cultural Ambassador for the Port of Rotterdam. He lives in Vienna where he has taught at the Universities of Music.

His career has brought collaboration with famous conductors, broadcasting and television stations and record companies. His score or more of recordings include his reconstruction of Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto for piano and string sextet and recording of the Mozart Concertos K.413, K.414 and K.415 played as piano quintets, with the Augburger Streichquartet. His CD 400 years focuses on the four centuries of relationships between The Netherlands and Japan (2009).
