Massimo Macrì began his musical studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatorio in Rome with Giuseppe Selmi and Amedeo Baldovino. He participated in numerous masterclasses and seminars with André Navarra and Siegfried Palm in Germany and won various international competitions including the 1983 Cimento d’Oro for classical music. He has served as principal cellist at the Verona Arena, the Teatro dell’Opera, Rome and with the RAI orchestras in Rome and Milan. He is principal cellist with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Turin, and has also collaborated in the same capacity with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich and the Filarmonica della Scala, Milan, playing under leading conductors, including Carlo Maria Giulini, Eliahu Inbal, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Semyon Bychkov, Jeffrey Tate and James Conlon. For Italian Radio and Television he has recorded cello concertos by Boccherini, Danzi, Haydn, Ghedini, Mannino, Gulda and Bloch. He has taught at the Rome Conservatorio and now teaches at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatorio in Turin and gives masterclasses throughout the world.
