MOSCOW PHILHARMONIC CONCERTINO STRING QUARTET

Jaroslav Krasnikov, violin I
Sofia Krasnikova, violin II
Olga Zhmaeva, viola
Victor Kozodov, cello

The Moscow Philharmonic Concertino String Quartet made its début at the Calamar Festival in France in 1994, when it performed one of the three quartets of the Spanish composer Arriaga. It has devoted itself to the performance and recording of relatively rare repertoire and to original arrangements and performances of miniatures and jazz bestsellers. With a busy concert schedule, the concertino has in its repertoire more than thirty string quartets, and has given first performances of the string quartets of Valery Gavrilin and Vladimir Dashkevich.

Jaroslav Krasnikov studied at the Central Children’s Music School and the Moscow State Conservatory with Professors Kosolupova, Snitkovskiy and Yashvili. From 1983 until 1990 he served as soloist and concertmaster of the Moscow Capella, and as first violin in the Liceum Quartet. For the BBC he recorded as the soloist in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and in concertos by Bach, Mozart, and Brahms. From 1991 to 1996 he was concertmaster and soloist of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, under Vladimir Fedoseyev, and since 1996 has been the leader of the Moscow Philharmonic Concertino String Quartet. He has appeared as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles in Russia, the United States, Spain, France, Japan, Poland, Egypt, and the Republic of Korea, and has made ten recordings, including three of concertos. He collaborated in the editing and first performance of string quartets by Valery Gavrilin, and with the Modern Music Ensemble recorded a set of miniatures by Astor Piazzolla. He has been concertmaster of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra since 2006.

Sofia Krasnikova graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1982. She served as concertmaster with the opera orchestra of the Conservatory and was a member of the Liceum Quartet. She has played with the Moscow Philharmonic Concertino String Quartet since 1995.

Olga Zhmaeva graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory as a pupil of Professor G. Odinets in 1999, completing further study at the Moscow Conservatory in 2001. She has appeared widely in Russia and abroad as a member of the Moscow Philharmonic Concertino String Quartet which she joined in 2004.

Victor Kozodov studied at the Moscow Central Children’s Music School, and at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Professor S.T. Kalianov. He has had wide experience as a chamber music player, and is a founder member of the Moscow Philharmonic Concertino String Quartet.
