The Palestrina Ensemble Munich was founded in 1994 by Mirjam and Venanz Schubert with the majority of members of the ensemble studying at one of the universities of Munich. The focus of the choir is primarily on sacred music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with an additional special interest in Gregorian chant. The ensemble also performs madrigals and secular music. The spiritual home of the ensemble is in the Catholic University Chaplaincy of Munich and Academic Centre. In recent years the ensemble has performed by invitation in all the leading churches of Munich, as well as in Andechs, Ettal, Garmisch, Landshut (Seligenthal Abbey), Scheyern (summer concerts at Kloster Scheyern), at Bogenberg near Straubing, in Waldhausen near Aalen and at the Obermain Music Summer Festival.
