Musica Ficta was formed in 1996 by the composer and conductor Bo Holten. In Musica Ficta Bo Holten continues to work with his specialities, contemporary and early music, but also goes a step further and exploits his many years’ experience of Renaissance vocal polyphony in his work with a selected repertoire from quite different epochs. The work with the medieval repertoire began in connection with Musica Ficta’s large concert series "A Thousand Years of Danish Music”, in which this music constituted the first programme. Since its foundation Musica Ficta has recorded seven CDs with widely differing repertoires: Early Renaissance, Music from the Court of King Christian III, Danish songs, children’s music and Christmas music. Two new CDs of Danish Romantic music and music by Carl Nielsen are to be recorded in the autumn of 1999. Musica Ficta usually performs with 14 singers, but in the end it is the nature of the challenge and the artistic requirements that determine the size and voice combination.
