NEW BRANDENBURG PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2001. The inauguration of the St Mary’s Church Concert Hall as a place of rehearsal and performance is considered as its most precious birthday present. Based on projects by the Finnish architect Pekka Salminen from Helsinki, this thirteenth-century cathedral was transformed into a modern concert hall with an excellent acoustic and technical standards befitting the new millennium. Since 2001 the orchestra has become part of the Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz Theater und Orchester GmbH, with some three hundred concerts annually throughout Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and further afield, including chamber music recitals, school performances, broadcasts and music theatre. The orchestra has a wide audience through broadcasts with Deutschland Radio in Cologne and North German Radio, and through acclaimed compact disc recordings that have brought further international exposure.
