NAOMI NISKALA

Japanese-American pianist Naomi Niskala, raised in upstate New York and Tokyo, Japan, began her piano studies at the age of three. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in North America, Japan, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2007 Albany Records released her recording of complete solo piano works of Robert Helps to high acclaim. She received her bachelor’s degree with Patricia Zander at the New England Conservatory, and then her master and doctoral degrees with Gilbert Kalish at Stony Brook University, and an artist diploma with Claude Frank at the Yale School of Music. She has served on the faculties of Wesleyan University, the University of South Florida, and the University of North Dakota, and is currently assistant professor of music at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania where she teaches piano and theory.
