The Orchestra of the Swan is resident at the Civic Hall in Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon and associate orchestra at Birmingham Town Hall, with residencies and concert series at the Cadogan Hall in London, Bedworth and Loughborough. The orchestra performs at other major concert venues and festivals in the United Kingdom, including Symphony Hall, Birmingham, Warwick Arts Centre, St John’s Smith Square and the Three Choirs, Lichfield and Deal Festivals. In November 2011 it joined the Indie band James for a country-wide sell-out tour performing in the principal concert halls of Cardiff, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Gateshead, Liverpool and Glasgow, and at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Associate artists of the orchestra have included Tasmin Little, Julian Lloyd Webber and for 2011–12 the outstanding young pianist Benjamin Grosvenor. The orchestra has received the highly prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Composer in the House award, appointing Huw Watkins to the post. Television appearances include premières of Japanese Spring by Roxanna Panufnik on the South Bank Show with Tasmin Little, and CDs have been Gramophone Choice, CD of the Week on Classic FM and Washington Public Radio, and in the top twenty Classical Albums for 2011 on Chicago Public Radio. The orchestra broadcasts live on BBC Radio 3 and performances have been networked to 260 United States Public Radio Stations and the Chinese State News Agency. The Orchestra of the Swan is a major champion of new music, and has commissioned work from Joe Cutler, Tansy Davies, Joe Duddell, Alexander Goehr, John Joubert, Joanna Lee, Roxanna Panufnik, Paul Patterson, Joseph Phibbs, Julian Philips, Dobrinka Tabakova, Param Vir, Errollyn Wallen, Shu Wang, John Woolrich and many others. The orchestra records for Avie, Naxos and Somm, including repertoire by Barber, Bax, Berlioz, (world première recording), Brahms, Copland, Debussy, Finzi, Hans Gal, Daren Hagen (world première recording), Ireland, Mahler, Mozart, James Schleffer (world première recording), Schumann, Johann Strauss and Vivaldi.
