OSAKA CENTURY ORCHESTRA
The Osaka Century Orchestra was established in December 1989 under its first chief conductor, Uriel Segal, with the aim of providing the people of Osaka Prefecture with an orchestra they could be proud of. The 55-member orchestra is highly skilled at playing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and classical music, but has recently been performing more modern pieces too. Uriel Segal was appointed chief conductor from 1989 to 1997, followed by Ken Takaseki from 1997 to 2003.
The Osaka Century Orchestra invited Kazuhiro Koizumi as principal conductor and Seikyo Kim as resident conductor from April 2003. Besides holding subscription and special concerts, the orchestra actively promotes music appreciation classes aimed at refining the sensibilities of the younger generation, tomorrow's leaders. Their aim is to provide not only classical music but music that stirs the soul of every person so that the wider general public will come to know the joy of listening to great music.
