MIKKO PERKOLA Mikko Perkola studied viola and viola da gamba at the Sibelius Academy and at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers were Arvo Haasma, Markku Luolajan-Mikkola and Wieland Kuijken. He has given concerts and recorded chamber music in Europe together with the viol quartet Phantasm, Concerto Palatino, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, Icelandic Chamber Orchestra, Battalia, Retrover, Ensemble Severin, and recitals with Wieland Kuijken, Laurence Dreyfus, Topi Lehtipuu, Hans-Ola Ericsson, Anna Lindal and Markku Luolajan-Mikkola. He has recorded Bach’s Gamba Sonatas (Naxos 8.570210) and Rameau’s Pieces de clavecin en concerts (Alba). Perkola is both a singer and composer in the Finnish group Tekijä Tuntematon, which interprets poems in a modern idiom. His wide range in music-making includes collaborations with artists from different fields, from early music to multimedia and solo performances of contemporary music with amplified viol.
