PETER SEIFFERT

The German tenor Peter Seiffert was born in Düsseldorf, where he had his earlier musical training, at first concentrating on lighter tenor repertoire before embarking on the heavier rôles of Richard Strauss. He first attracted general international attention with his interpretation of Gounod’s Faust and of Lohengrin and since 1983 has been based at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, while undertaking guest engagements in major German opera houses and appearances abroad, including the Vienna State Opera and London’s Covent Garden. His work in the concert hall has brought collaboration with many of the most distinguished conductors, with opera engagements including the rôle of Tito in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the New York Metropolitan Opera and Florestan in Beethoven’s Fidelio for Glyndebourne.
