PETER SWEENEY Peter Sweeney, organ
Born in Dublin, Peter Sweeney is a gold medallist of tbe city's College of Music and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. He undertook further study at the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva, where he won the Premier Prix de Virtuosité, the Prix Rochette for improvisation and the Prix Otto Barbian, the top performance award. In 1978 he won second prize at the Manchester International Organ Competition and since then has appeared as a recitalist throughout Europe and North America, also serving for six years as Artistic Director of the Dublin International Organ Festival. His career has brought scope for involvement in music for children in workshops and concerts, and teaching commitments at the D.I. T. Conservatory of Music. For eleven years he served as organist and director of music at Christ Church Cathedral. Peter Sweeney performs and records regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and has given world premieres of new solo works and organ concertos.
