PIERO GUARNERA
Piero Guarnera
The baritone Piero Guarnera completed his musical studies with
Maria Carbone and Maria Vittoria Romano. In 1984 he won the Spoleto International
Competition and made his debut as Belcore in L'elisir d'amore. In the
same year he appeared at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome as Masetto in Don
Giovanni under Peter Maag, and in 1995 won the Treviso Toti dal Monte Competition,
appearing as Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte. He has since then appeared
in leading theatres in Italy and abroad, including the Teatro dell'Opera in
Rome (Ifigenia in Tauride, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Ford in
Falstaff), the Naples Teatro di San Carlo (Il barbiere di Siviglia
under Bartoletti, Tha Rape of Lucretia directed by Corbelli), the
Teatro alla Scala (Idomeneo under Riccardo Muti, Arabella under
Sawallisch), the Turin Teatro Regio (Il Campanello, Il barbiere di
Siviglia, La Pulzella d'Orleans of Tchaikovsky), the Teatro di Ferrara (Falstaff
conducted by Claudio Abbado), the Palermo Teatro Massimo (La Boheme,
conducted by Renzetti), the Venice Teatro La Fenice (title-role in Falstaff
under Kabaratchevsky), Zurich Opera (La Boheme), the Opera di Montecarlo
(Falstaff), as well as at Spoleto (Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor,
Don Pasquale), Pisa (Le nozze di Figaro, directed by Desderi,
Don Pasquale), Malaga (La Cenerentola), Bordeaux and Maastricht
(La Boheme). He has also appeared in concerts in collaboration with the
tenor Jose Carreras.
