RICHARD MAY

As one of Britain’s most outstanding cellists of his generation, Richard May is a former String Section winner of BBC TV Young Musician of the Year Competition, and has since enjoyed an international career as soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He has performed most of the major concertos with orchestras including the Basel Symphony, Ulster and BBC Philharmonic, and has given recitals, broadcasts and masterclasses throughout Europe, America, South Africa and Asia, including appearances at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, South Bank, Barbican and at festivals in Salzburg, Berlin and Aldeburgh. A recital in Basel of Bach Suites gained critical acclaim for “absolute perfection and virtuosity”. He is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
