ROBERT HILL The American harpsichordist and musicologist Robert Hill has been Professor of Historical Keyboard Instruments and Performance Practice at the Freiburg Musikhochschule since 1990. Until 1974 he was a pupil of Gustav Leonhardt at the Amsterdam Conservatory, going on to study musicology at Harvard University and to teach from 1968 to 1990 at Duke University. He is one of the most distinguished performers on early keyboard instruments, harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano, and in the last decades has collaborated with Reinhard Goebel, Dmitri Sitkovetsky and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, among others. His brother Keith is a keyboard-instrument maker in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and they have together been deeply engaged in the reconstruction of the Lautenklavier. As a player Robert Hill performs keyboard repertoire from about 1600 to 1900 and has done much towards the creative revival of earlier musical practices.
