JUAN CARLOS RODRIGUEZ
Born in Cádiz, Juan Carlos Rodríguez studied the piano with Pilar Bilbao, a pupil of the great Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau, and also received valuable advice from eminent international musicians, including Hans Graf, Brétislav Novotny, Edith Fischer and Solomon Mikowsky. He has won many awards in national and international piano contests, including first prize in Les Corts International Competition (Barcelona), the San Sebastián International Piano Competition, José Roca National Piano Competition (Valencia), Manresa National Piano Competition, Gerardo Diego National Piano Competition (Soria), Piano Performance Prize at Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), second prize at the Frechilla-Zualoaga National Piano Competition (Valladolid), Samuel de los Santos Piano Prize at the Albacete National Piano Competition, and the third prize and Spanish Music Prize at the Carlet International Piano Competition (Valencia). He appears in recital in major concert halls in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, and has recorded for Spanish National Radio, Catalunya Música and Radio Suisse Romande, winning particular praise for his interpretation of Berg’s Piano Sonata, Op 1. He has performed at leading festivals in Spain and abroad and as a soloist has collaborated with chamber groups and orchestras. His wide repertoire covers many styles, from the baroque to the contemporary.
