SAN FRANCISCO CONSERVATORY ORCHESTRA
Founded in 1917, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music is the oldest conservatory in the American West, offering fully accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in composition and instrumental and vocal performance. Notable alumni include Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Jeffrey Kahane and Aaron Jay Kernis. The Conservatory’s faculty and students give more than 400 public performances each year, most of which are offered at no charge. The Conservatory’s new home in the heart of San Francisco’s Civic Center has won many architectural and design awards, and its concert hall was lauded by The New York Times as the “most enticing classical-music setting” in the Bay Area. The Conservatory Orchestra is the Conservatory’s premiere instrumental ensemble and one of the nation’s finest young musician orchestras. Led by music director Andrew Mogrelia, the orchestra presents a full concert season each year as well as operatic performances, student concerto competitions and public workshops with distinguished visiting conductors.
