ROBERTAS SERVENIKAS

Numbered among the most talented Lithuanian conductors of his generation, Robertas Šervenikas (b. 1966) is equally at home in classical and modern repertoire and is often praised for the ability to combine refinement of detail and an outstanding command of large-scale forms. After graduating from the St Petersburg Conservatory in choral, opera and orchestral conducting, Šervenikas began working with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra in 1993. He also regularly conducts the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestra, as well as the chamber orchestras of Šiauliai and Klaipėda.

His international engagements intensified when Mstislav Rostropovich invited him to appear at the Evian Festival as a guest conductor with the Philharmonie der Nationen Orchestra (1997) and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (1998). Robertas Šervenikas has also repeatedly led the LNSO on its extensive European tours. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was awarded the Lithuanian National Arts and Culture Prize in 2005.
