SHANGHAI FILM CHINESE ORCHESTRA

Established in 1956, the Shanghai Film Chinese Orchestra has made a significant contribution to the musical life of China, providing music for the cinema, for television and for radio, and introducing to the public a number of new works. The orchestra has taken an active part in the Shanghai Spring Music Festival and in Sunday Radio Concerts and has among its members players of the highest ability and experience. Soloists from the orchestra have won high praise, and the orchestra has frequently been called upon to play for visiting dignitaries, including Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, Lady Thatcher and the German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl.
