TAIWAN WIND ENSEMBLE
Formed in 2004, the Taiwan Wind Ensemble (TWE) consists of wind players who are professors and band directors from all over the country. With Mr Toshio Akiyama as the artistic director, the TWE collaborates with local composers and commissions new works periodically. Works by Ching-Wen Chao, Tzyy-Sheng Lee, Yiu-kwong Chung, Shu-Si Chen Yu-Chou Chen and Shuang-Liang Hsu have been given their premières by the TWE, drawing national and international attention, both locally and internationally. The ensemble has also worked with several internationally acclaimed conductors including François Bailleul, Tsunanobu Kawamoto (the Sony Concert Band), Kanat Akhmetov (the State Wind Orchestra of Kazakhstan), Soichi Konagaya, Alain Crépin, Dominique Gable, Gary Green, and Guy Touvron. Publications by the Taiwan Wind Ensemble include music scores of the Formosa Dance by Wen-Yeh Chiang, Retentir, Archetype, Exuberant Dances by Ching-Wen Chao, Wayfarer’s March by Dai Yi-Qing, and the double CD Festive Celebration – Yiu-kwong Chung’s Works for Wind Ensemble, conducted by the composer himself.
