Tony Martin began his career fronting a dance band as vocalist and playing saxophone. His film career began with a bit part in Follow the Fleet (1936). He introduced “You Stepped Out of a Dream” in Ziegfeld Girl (1941) and appeared in the star-studded biography of Jerome Kern, Till the Clouds Roll By (1946). His good looks and rich voice led to his casting as a romantic lead in the Esther Williams film, Easy to Love (1953). Martin was married to dancer/film star Cyd Charisse with whom he co-authored the joint-autobiography The Two of Us.
