JEAN-PHILIPPE TREMBLAY

Jean-Philippe Tremblay graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Québec in Chicoutimi and Université de Montréal in viola, composition and conducting. He then completed his training at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Tanglewood Music Center with such renowned teachers as Robert Spano, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, Jorma Panula and Michael Jinbo. Jean-Philippe Tremblay has conducted the orchestras of Washington, London, Montréal, Toronto, Vancouver, Dresden and Paris. He has appeared with the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic, National Ballet of Canada, Sinfonia Nova Scotia and National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, where he was Assistant Conductor to Pinchas Zukerman from 2001 to 2003. He has been the musical director of Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne since its founding in the summer of 2001. An avid chamber music player, he exchanges his conductor's baton for his viola each summer to perform in a number of North American festivals. He is also Artistic Advisor to the Tremblay Ensemble of New York City as well as Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, and a faculty member of the National Arts Centre Young Artists Programme.
