Jeffrey Biegel, piano
Kinga Augustyn, violin
Robert deMaine, cello
Formed in 2011 by pianist Jeffrey Biegel, Trio21 is dedicated to interpreting the classic repertoire for piano trio, with an added focus on 20th-century works and music by contemporary composers of various genres. Kenneth Fuchs’s Falling Trio is their first recording for Naxos. Glen Roven’s Runaway Bunny, based on the classic story by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd and narrated by Catherine Zeta-Jones, was released in November 2012 on GPR Records (distrib uted by Naxos). Trio21 consists of three exceptional artists. Jeffrey Biegel has created a multifaceted career as a pianist, recording artist, composer, and arranger. A champion of contemporary music, he has commissioned and recorded piano concerti and chamber music by today’s leading composers, including William Bolcom, Richard Danielpour, Lowell Liebermann, and Ellen Taafe Zwilich. His acclaimed discs Bach on a Steinway and A Steinway Christmas Album were recorded for the Steinway label. Violinist Kinga Augustyn made her début at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She has performed as soloist with orchestras in the United States and Europe, among them the Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wrocław Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, and the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra. She is committed to increasing awareness of music by Polish composers as well as promoting contemporary music. Her forthcoming disc of Polish works for violin and piano will be released in 2013 by Naxos (9.70192). Cellist Robert deMaine has distinguished himself as one of the foremost soloists and chamber musicians of his generation. As principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and formerly as principal of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, he has performed virtually all of the major concerti composed for cello under such conductors as Neeme Järvi, Peter Oundjian, and Leonard Slatkin. In addition to Trio21, he is the founding cellist of three other newly established chamber groups, including the Chroma Piano Trio, Icarus (flute, cello, piano), and the Ehnes String Quartet. He is a frequent guest artist at many international festivals, including Aspen, Marlboro, Heidelberg, Montreal, and Seattle.
