Pianist Matei Varga is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, among them the Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona, the Porto International Piano Competition, and the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest, where he was also awarded a special prize for the best performance of Enescu’s Piano Sonata, Op. 24.  He has performed at major venues around the world, including the Zankel Hallin New York, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, and the Konzerthaus in Berlin. He was a guest artist of the Spoleto Festival (Italy) and the International Keyboard Festival (New York).

Matei Varga studied at the Romanian National University of Music with Ana Pitis, Ioana Minei and Sandu Sandrin, and at Mannes College in New York with Pavlina Dokovska. His performances have won critical acclaim in America and in Germany, among other places.
