Victoria Vergara was born in Chile and studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia as well as at The Juilliard School in New York. With a multi-faceted repertoire she has been recognised internationally as a Carmen, interpreted in the principal opera houses in Europe and America, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York conducted by Domingo. Among other rôles worth mentioning are Amneris with Pavarotti in Vienna, and Dulcinea with Samuel Ramey at the New York City Opera. Among the most important world première rôles are the Duchess of Alba in Menotti’s Goya in Washington, la Dona in Luis de Pablo’s El viajero indiscreto in Madrid, and her present performance as Beatriz in Leonardo Balada’s Cristóbal Colón. Her DVD recordings include Maddalena in Rigoletto, with Pavarotti, and Carmen with Domingo. In her concert repertoire she has sung the rôle of Carmela in El amor brujo by Manuel de Falla at The Juilliard School in New York, at the RAI Auditorium in Rome, in Mexico City and in Cadíz at the opening of the Teatro Manuel de Falla. In the concert hall she has sung in Mahler’s Second Symphony, Bach’s Magnificat, and Mozart’s Requiem, part of a wide concert repertoire.
