VLADIMIR GRISHKO

The gifted Ukrainian tenor Vladimir Grishko has received critical acclaim for his brilliant performances around the globe, with a notable début at the New York Metropolitan Opera as Rodolfo in La Bohème and powerful performances in Borodin’s Prince Igor. His international career has continued with major rôles in Italian, Russian and French operatic repertoire in leading opera houses in America, Europe and with the Kirov Opera in St Petersburg. His recordings include Tchaikovsky’s The Snow Maiden with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, in addition to several solo recordings of Italian arias, Russian and Ukrainian folk song, and Italian and Spanish songs. He won the Plácido Domingo Grand Prize and Best Tenor award at the 1989 Vinas Vocal Competition, and the grand prize in the Concours International de Chant in Toulouse, France. Born into a family of musicians and soldiers, Vladimir Grishko often sang on radio and television as a child in Kiev. He studied at the Glière Kiev State Music Conservatory with Vladimir Zaporoshtev, and went on to graduate from the Tchaikovsky Kiev State Conservatory doctoral programme while studying with Zoya Khristich. He is a Knight of the Order of the Saint Prince Volodimir.
