Yvonne Dean joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company under the name Yvonne Burton. She started as a chorister in 1945, and was given the title role in Iolanthe when she stood in for Marjorie Eyre in1946. Later she performed in the chorus again from August 1949 until March 1950. This time she took regularly the small part of Vittoria in The Gondoliers, and also occasionally filled in as Kate inThe Pirates of Penzance.

Miss Dean was later known as Yvonne Newman. Under that name she may be heard on a number of D'Oyly Carte recordings.
