Marek Zwiebel, violin I
Peter Mosorjak, violin II
Peter Zwiebel, viola
Andrej Gál, cello

The Zwiebel Quartet was formed in the autumn of 2001 at VSMU (the Academy of Performing Arts) in Bratislava, where all its members studied chamber playing (their pedagogue was Mária Karlíková). Driven by the original student enthusiasm for play in a quartet, the members later decided to start working professionally and thus the quartet has, over time, become an experienced ensemble playing music of all periods. The quartet has performed in master classes with members of recognized groups such as the Hagen Quartet, Alban Berg Quartet, Bartók Quartet, Smetana Quartet, Amadeus Quartet, and Quatuor Mosaïques. In 2002, at the International Summer Academy Prag-Wien-Budapest, the Quartet was awarded the prestigious Second Thomastik-Infeld Prize for the interpretation of music of Shostakovich. Currently, the Zwiebel Quartet collectively and its members as soloists form the backbone of the main contemporary music festivals both in Slovakia and abroad (Melos-Ethos, New Slovak Music, Ostrava Days for New Music). In addition, they regularly perform on Slovak Radio as part of the “Stúdio mladých” (Young Performers’ Studio) concerts and they also cooperate with SOOZVUK—the association of young contemporary composers—where, along with the works of their contemporaries, they perform the works of the older generation.
