"Michael Hampe's austere staging for the 1993 Schwetzingen Festival goes to the heart of the matter. The decor is abstract with aall the action taking place on what looks lie the top of a raised globe. A few props help to create the atmosphere of each scene. The lighting and, for DVD, imaginative camera-work do the rest.
"This screen direction is impeccable and the sound true. ...this is an absorbing experience that does justice to the composer's human concept."
