Robert Benson, June 2016

Czech legendary choreographer Jiří Kylián is the subject of a new film by Don Kent and Christian Dumas-Lvowski. It is an informal film Kylián wanted to make to pass along to the world of ballet his concept of the art. He does so in a most engaging way, and there are many interludes of him working with dancers including his wife Sabine Kupferberg. © 2016 Read complete review

Joseph Carman
Dance Magazine, March 2012

Known for shunning the limelight of publicity, Kylián speaks candidly in this film about the serendipitously timed episodes that catalyzed his talents into a legendary career. As a choreographer, his influence reshaped contemporary dance in Europe.

Interspersed among the details of his biography is revelatory footage of his works, both onstage and in the studio, where he commands with his soft-spoken encouragement and specificity of detail.

The choreographer’s signature use of space, bodies propelled by tensile backs, and an exhilarating blend of rhythm and drama are highlighted. © 2012 Dance Magazine Read complete review
